In 2019, I wrote, produced and performed Absalom vs Absalom—my debut one-man theatre production, staged at London’s Hen & Chickens Theatre.
Drawing on personal experiences, the semi-autobiographical play explored identity, ambition, vulnerability and the emotional rollercoaster of pursuing a career in the creative industries. Combining humour with honest storytelling, it invited audiences inside the mind of an actor striving for the next opportunity while confronting self-doubt, expectation and the different versions of ourselves we present to the world.
Creating the production meant taking ownership of every stage of the process. From developing the script and producing the show to promoting the run and performing live each evening, it was a true labour of love that challenged me creatively, professionally and personally.
Although my career has since taken me around the world presenting international sport, Absalom vs Absalom remains one of the projects I’m most proud of. It reinforced my belief that the most powerful stories are often the most personal, and that taking creative risks is one of the best ways to grow as both a performer and a storyteller.
More than anything, the experience reminded me why I love this industry: creating work that connects with people, sparks conversation and tells stories with honesty, authenticity and heart.
